$25 Million Conference Center Coming Soon to Aurora
April 7, 2014
With things still hot between the city of Aurora and 11 hotels suing over the Gaylord Rockies hotel and conference center project, the City Council has voted in favor of a deal to build a separate, $25 million conference center near the Anschutz Medical Campus, the Aurora Sentinel reports.
Aurora officials approved the funds to hire Corporex Colorado LLC as builder of the 30,000-square-foot conference center.
Corporex Colorado — the local unit of Covington, Ky.-based Corporex — has been involved in numerous other projects in the Denver metro area, including the construction of a Hampton Inn in Lone Tree, the Art, a hotel on 12th and Broadway(slated for opening in January 2015) and the construction of a 249-room Hyatt Hotel & Conference Center near Anschutz Medical Campus.
The center and parking garage will be located at the Fitzsimons Village development on East Colfax Avenue.
Tax revenues generated at the site will pay for the overall cost of the building, and officials said revenues will be divvied up among Aurora’s urban renewal authority, Corporex and the metropolitan district.
