A 163-room boutique hotel next to the Denver Art Museum promises a one-of-a-kind lodging experience, drawing on its setting to showcase a collection of modern art.
The Art, a hotel, is a $55 million development at the northwest corner of West 12th Avenue and Broadway that will include 50,000 square feet of office space. Corporex Colo- rado LLC is developing the project on a site once targeted for office and high-end con- dos. Completion is slated for December 2014. Development partners include an investment group led by Lanny Martin, founder of Platte River Equity, and George Thorn, who part- nered with Corporex to develop the Museum Residences.
Located within Den- ver ’s cul- tural center, the hotel and offices will cater to people visit-ing the art museum, HistoryColorado Center, and neigh-boring state and city offices,as well as those who wanta unique stay in downtownDenver. “We don’t think thereis another hotel like the hotelwe’re building in the market,”said Mark Witkiewicz, Corpo-rex Colorado chief operatingofficer.
Being built next to the Denver Art Museum, the Art, a hotel, will showcase art curated by Dianne Vanderlip, former curator of modern and contemporary art at the DAM.
Instead of waiting at a reception desk, they will check in on iPads. The hotel, to be operated by Commonwealth Hotels, feature a vibrant wall covering of a select piece of art.
“The rooms at the Art will be quite luxurious,” said Cyn- thia Steinbrecher, an associBank. Haselden Construction is the general contractor.

will be positioned above three floors of office space, offering views to the east and west. The Art also will include 4,200 sf of banquet space and three boardrooms with views of the museum, downtown Denver and the mountains.
The hotel’s restaurant, bar and gathering spaces will flow to a large terrace with a fire pit overlooking the city. Each guest room floor will offer four unique suites fur- nished with high-quality lin- ens and plush towels, a coffee station, refrigerator and bar. One wall in each suite will

Guadalupe Cantu of Davis Partnership designed the hotel. Before joining Davis Partnership, Cantu was a senior architect with Studio Daniel Liebeskind, which designed the Frederic C. Ham- ilton Building addition to the Denver Art Museum.
